Immersion Starts with Sound

A game can look great but you’ll notice it lacking if it doesn’t also have great sound.

From the sounds of footsteps on grass while walking in an rpg to huge explosion sounds after a laser hits an enemy, all do a huge part in making the game feel complete and immersive like you’re really there.

Even in VR games where you’re already feeling more immersed than a regular game, sound can make huge improvement especially when spatial audio is used, you can make the player think they are hearing something like a plane flying overhead or a dog running up behind them instead of just normal stereo surround sound which is mostly left, right and center.

Overall great looking graphics and gameplay are important but sound ties them all together and makes for the complete immersive experience.
